President Barack Obama gave support to the controversial Ground Zero Mosque, during a meeting with Islamic leaders at the White House in honour of Ramadan.
He ofcourse mitigated his words the day after, explaining that he only meant that if Jews and Christian can build synagogues and churches in New York, Muslims have the right to build a Mosque.
To some extent of course Obama is right, but the issue is not building a Mosque, the issue is building a Mosque at a site that is very controversial: The majority of the Americans is against it.
The Mosque in question, which in fact is an Islamic study centre with a mosque included is meant to promote understanding and tolerance between east and west, or so Feisal Abdul Rauf and his wife Daisy Khan, boardmembers of the liated American Society for Muslim Advancement and the Cordoba Initiative say.
If the Mosque is really about mutual understanding and Tolerance, then why don’t Rauf and Khan understand that building it there and planning the opening on 9/11 2011 is the wrong thing to do.
Same goes for Barack Obama who –wrongly or rightly- is often accused of being a closet Muslim. Does one really expect that akin to receiving muslim leaders, he would receive the KKK Imperial Wizard and tel them he supports their right to construct their new HQ right next door to the Lorraine Motel in Memphis, where Martin Luther King was shot on april 4, 1968?
I think not!
